15m motor vessel with engine difficulties during westerly gale

Hoylake Lifeboat was tasked by UK Coastguard at 23:59 to a 15m motor vessel "Venom" having engine difficulties in the River Mersey. The vessel was making slow progress in the channel during a westerly gale and there was concern that it may impede inward-bound shipping. Hoylake's Shannon class lifeboat 'Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood' launched into the gale to rendezvous with the casualty vessel off New Brighton and escorted her to the Liverpool landing stage. Once the vessel was safely moored up, the lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service at 04:00.
