Lifeboat launched to broken down speed boat with 2 people in the water

UK Coastguard tasked Hoylake Lifeboat to assist a speed boat in the surf line off Meols with two persons reported to be in the water. The 16ft speed boat had left Meols slipway on the afternoon’s tide but while trying to return, it suffered engine failure which disabled the vessel. The 2 persons had entered the water to stop the speed boat washing up on the beach. Hoylake’s Shannon class lifeboat ‘Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood’ arrived on scene and a crew member waded to the casualties with a tow line. After explaining the situation, the tow was made fast by the crew member and the lifeboat towed the vessel to new Brighton beach, where it was met by another small boat that towed it ashore.
