Shore Crew / Tractor Operator
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland with our lifeboats, lifeguards, safety messages and flood rescue.
Hoylake Lifeboat Station is looking for a volunteer to take up the role of Shore Crew / Tractor Operator.
Founded in 1803, Hoylake Lifeboat Station is one of the oldest RNLI stations in the UK. The community in Hoylake have provided volunteer crews for over 200 years, a tradition that continues today with generations of local people prepared to risk their lives to save others at sea.
The Shannon class lifeboat at Hoylake, 13-06 RNLB 'Edmund Hawthorn Micklewood', and the Inshore Rescue Hover Craft, H-005 ‘Hurley Spirit’, cover the approaches to Liverpool, the Dee Estuary and the Irish Sea and launch at all states of tide in any weather to people and vessels in distress. The lifeboat, hovercraft and shore crew are all volunteers, led by the Lifeboat Operations Manager and Coxswain. All lifeboat, hovercraft and shore crew follow the RNLI’s national Competency Based Training Scheme and respond to pagers when there is a request to launch the lifeboat.
The role of the Shore Crew/ Tractor Operator is primarily to assist with the launch and recovery of the lifeboat and hovercraft on services and exercises; to maintain competence under Competency Based Training for the role; and to contribute to the overall upkeep of the station, lifeboat, hovercraft and equipment.
Following dedicated training and development, you will progress into the tractor operations team and will take charge of the lifeboat and hovercraft’s launch and recovery system on services and exercises when required.
This is a unique opportunity to join a motivated and enthusiastic local team of volunteers and to contribute to saving lives at sea. If you are a team player with good general fitness, the ability to learn new skills and local maritime knowledge, this could be the role for you. You must live or work in the Hoylake or Meols area and be between 17 and 65 years of age.
