Hoylake Lifeboat was on exercise and at anchor in the Hilbre Pool on the east side of Hilbre Island. The lifeboat was exercising with the RNLI Lifeguards jet-ski from West Kirby when a phone call was received from a member of the public on the island, who reported that a small RIB appeared to have broken down and was drifting towards the rocks between Middle Eye and Little Eye.

The Lifeguard jet-ski proceeded to the scene while Hoylake Lifeboat recovered its anchor. The lifeboat then proceeded to the west side of the island to take up a tow from jet-ski, which was standing by. Hoylake Lifeboat towed the RIB to the moorings at West Kirby before passing the line to a Sailing Club rescue boat. The lifeboat then continued with its exercise before recovering on Hoylake beach.
